Keep your life-safety lines working after the copper is gone
We move fire alarm, elevator, fax, POS and entry lines from copper to managed cellular service that's monitored, has battery backup, and is built for code compliance.
The analog lines nobody thinks about until they fail
POTS ("plain old telephone service") is the copper line that has run alarm panels, elevator phones, fax machines and card readers for decades. Phone companies are retiring that copper. Once your line is retired, anything plugged into it stops working, and in some cases nobody notices until an inspection or an emergency.
A POTS replacement device sits on site, connects to cellular networks, and gives your equipment the dial tone it expects. You don't need new alarm panels or new elevator phones.
Lines we replace
- Fire alarm communicators (DACT)
- Elevator emergency phones
- Burglar and security alarm lines
- Fax machines and fax servers
- Point-of-sale and credit card terminals
- Gate, door and call-box entry systems
- Emergency call stations and blue-light phones
- Modems for building controls and meters
Copper line vs. managed cellular POTS
| Copper POTS line | Managed POTS replacement | |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Being retired; new orders mostly closed | Available now, on multiple carriers |
| Monthly cost | Rising every year | Fixed monthly price, often lower |
| Power outage | Depends on the carrier's network | Battery backup on site |
| Monitoring | You find out when it fails | Monitored around the clock, with alerts |
| Fire alarm use | Traditional path | Use devices listed for fire alarm communication |
| Support | Carrier's national queue | A local technician who knows your site |
How a replacement project runs
Audit
We trace each line to the equipment it serves, read the phone bills, and check cellular signal at the panel location.
Plan
A written plan for each site: which lines to replace, consolidate or cancel, and the cost before and after.
Coordinate
We schedule with your alarm monitoring center, elevator contractor and fire marshal permits where required.
Cut over
We install, test signals end to end, document everything with photos, and only then cancel the old copper.
Done the way inspectors expect
Fire alarm and elevator phone lines are regulated, so we handle them carefully:
- We use devices listed for fire alarm communication (UL 864) and recognized by fire officials.
- We test with the central station and keep records for your inspector.
- We coordinate with licensed fire alarm and elevator contractors where Minnesota code requires their work.
- We pull permits where they're required.
Platforms we work with
We're vendor-neutral and install and support the major POTS replacement platforms, including DataRemote, Ooma AirDial and Granite EPIK, plus managed services from national carriers. We recommend whichever fits your sites and coverage.
